With only a few weeks at the box office, Jurassic World, the latest installment in the Jurassic Park saga, has already broken several records. His success was to be expected, as his recreations of dinosaurs and natural spaces have always been a great success on the big screen. Although not everyone has been happy with the result, many paleontologists and fans have already shown their outrage at the numerous scientific errors.

In this article we want highlight the most important faults that have been committed in the films of this franchise.

The first of the errors already comes from the first installment of 1993. Jurassic Park is the name of the theme park where the dinosaurs are found. But analyzing each of the species that appear in the film, only some secondaries like Dilophopsaurus are actually from the Jurassic period. The most famous, that is, the Velociraptor, the Triceratops or the Tyrannosaurus belonged to the Upper Cretaceous. So the choice of the name of the park, and of the film, has had a more than plausible aesthetic purpose. It is not the same to say "Cretacic Park" as "Jurassic Park".

Another mistake that has caused many complaints from experts is the one with the feathers. Since the end of the last century it is known, thanks to the study of fossilized remains, that many species of dinosaurs had them. But in Jurassic World it has been chosen not to equip the Velociraptor or the Tyrannosaurus Rex with that characteristic, since their appearance could be less fierce than the script intended. In the photo below you can see What the Velociraptor actually looked like. This representation can be found in the Austrian Museum of Natural History. Fortunately, there are many museums that can be visited in Europe on this subject.

At the same time, many of the most popular species of these films they have been given larger dimensions to make a greater impression on the viewer. It is known that the Velociraptor was very small; it was 1.8 meters long and could be as tall as a dog. The largest Mesasaur (the reptile featured in the Jurassic World trailer) discovered was 18 meters long, so it can be estimated that they doubled in size for the film.

«The Tyrannosaurus won't see you if you don't move«. That phrase He is one of the most famous kittens of the saga. The public is led to believe that the T-Rex has the characteristics of some nocturnal species, which have a view adapted to movement, but the truth is that its characteristics are closer to those of birds. And these distinguish a range of light waves superior even to that of the human eye.

By last, It is not proven in any case that dinosaurs roared. Nobody ever heard it, therefore it is not provable. Many of the dinosaurs that take more prominence in these films were hunters, so they had to be silent. Of course, a stealthy T-Rex would shake the viewer less.

As Jack Horner, renowned paleontologist and advisor throughout the saga, rightly stated, it is a film and not a documentary. But despite this, it is worthwhile for viewers to educate themselves after watching the film, what is known for sure about dinosaurs and what is being discovered every day. Because as you may have heard before, reality can often surpass fiction.
